BLACK HISTORY MONTH (AFRICAN AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH):
Every February since 1976, the United States has celebrated the achievements of African Americans during Black History Month. The month-long celebration puts those accomplishments into focus via the media and in classrooms.
Black History Month is a time when people can come together in memory of our rich past, a past that has largely been hidden. It is a time when we get the opportunity to learn about many contributions and accomplishments, which have historically been taken for granted.
Here are some inspiring quotes from well-known African American figures that have had a great impact on many lives:
“You may not control all the events that happen to you but you can decide not to be reduced by them” – Maya Angelou
“Success is not about how much money you make! It’s about the difference you make” – Michelle Obama
“NO.” – Rosa Parks
“If you can’t fly – run
If you can’t run – walk
If you can’t walk – crawl
But by all means – keep moving!” – Dr Martin Luther King Jr
“The time is always right to do what is right” – Dr Martin Luther King Jr
“Challenges make you discover things about yourself that you never really knew” – Cicely Tyson
